Since 2001, the Education and Career Center at Cherry Street Mission Ministries has been preparing low-income and homeless individuals for the contemporary work-force. This facility is equipped with state of the art computers and software, serving clients from Cherry Street Mission and clients from other social service agencies in Lucas County. The ECC provides comprehensive courses in Job Readiness and Computer Literacy.

JOB READINESS
A 5-week, intensive job preparation course that provides adults with the opportunity to develop marketable job skills and personal characteristics in order to find, maintain, and excel in the workforce. Job Readiness instruction consists of interactive workshops, individual tutoring, and

independent study. In this course, individuals learn to write effective applications, resumes, and cover letters. We also focus on proper communication with prospective employers, including phone etiquette, and interview skills. In the last 2 weeks of the course, job-seekers learn to “dress for success” and complete at least two mock interviews. We help connect job-seekers to as many job leads that fit their skill set and aptitude as well as provide follow-up services at the completion of this course.

BASIC COMPUTER TRAINING
A 6-week course geared toward the individual who has minimal computer knowledge. This course includes 2-week segments of Basic Computer/Windows XP, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel. In Basic Computer/Windows XP, we focus on keyboarding and mouse skills, and a basic understanding of hardware, software, and Windows XP. Microsoft Word and Excel focus on the basic understanding of each application.
