Education & Job Readiness Training
The goal of Cherry Street's Monroe Street Education and Career Center is to prepare homeless and poor people for the contemporary workforce.
Taught by a certified, veteran educator and dedicated volunteers, the courses we offer at our Ed Center are open to Cherry Street guests, people referred by other social service agencies, and the public, free of charge.
- The Ed Center offers GED preparation and practice testing and coursework in English-as-a-second-language (ESL).
- The Center, which is equipped with state-of-the-art computers and software, provides comprehensive courses in computer literacy, as well as job readiness courses that help students prepare resumes, and practice job interviews.
- The Ed Center also "takes the show on the road,"offering select courses at Cherry Street's Sparrow's Nest and The Oaks.
In 2010, under the direction of Ed Center staff, volunteers at the Center helped 637 people, more than double the number we did just two years earlier.
If you would like to donate to support the Education and Career Center; volunteer there; have a friend or loved one who may need the services of the Ed Center; or would like additional information, please contact us.
