Rules and Guidelines

Cherry Street Mission Ministries is looking for artists who want to share their talent and celebrating 65 years of serving the community.  Saturday, June 30, 2012 we will celebrate with a Family and Arts Festival, featuring the artist’s chalk drawings.

Registration fee: 

  • Artist 14 years old and older may register
  • Student artists (Student ID required): $5
  • Artists living at a Cherry Street facility (with verification): Free
  • Staff of Cherry Street (ineligible for prizes): $10
  • All other artists: $10

Artist Guidelines:

  1. Pre-registration is required. Register online or mail in the registration form.
  2. One artist per registration form. No group entry.
  3. Artists need to register at the Artist Check-In tent on Saturday, June 30, 2012 between 9:00-10:30 am. You   will be assigned a one square of sidewalk, receive a pack of materials including a pack of chalk, one bottle of water, and some other goodies. Lunch will be provided for you.
  4. Public walk-through is scheduled from 11 am-4 pm. Judging will begin at 2:00 pm. Artists are encouraged to begin early to ensure that they have time to complete quality work prior to judging.
  5. Each drawing must remain within the designated square area.
  6. Participants must only use the chalk distributed at the competition. 
  7. No spray fixatives may be used.
  8. The design of the square must be created in chalk. Participants are encouraged to crush chalk and add water to make more vibrant colors. Chalk mixing to add more colors is allowable. No materials can be used that emit offensive odors or annoyance to other participants or festival goers. 
  9. All artwork is property of Cherry Street Mission Ministries. Art will be photographed and open for viewing to the public.
  10. The festival will have music provided for the public. Please do not play music for others to hear. 
  11. Participants are not allowed to draw on buildings, trees, or any surfaces other than assigned squares.
  12. Cherry Street Mission Ministries is a Christian organization and the 65th Anniversary Family and Arts Festival is a family event. Artwork must not contain profanity, nudity, or any content deemed inappropriate by festival officials. Officials have the right to remove art and disqualify an artist if artwork is inappropriate. 
  13. After the results of the judging are announced, the artist is asked to stay for photographs and prize presentation.
  14. Participants may be disqualified by judges or festival officials for failure to adhere to any of the above guidelines.
