Emergency Shelter
In February 1995, Cherry Street acquired a two-story brick building which began our long desired outreach for women, the Sparrow’s Nest. The Sparrow’s Nest provides safe emergency shelter for single women, with food, clothing, and hygiene items.
In September 2003, the Sparrow’s Nest temporarily suspended services in order to renovate and develop a more comprehensive shelter program to increase the capacity and the quality of our services. It reopened January 2005, with renovated sleeping and dining areas that accommodate 26 women each night. The facility renovation was completed in October 2005 and is now a fully operational facility for women with 51 beds. The first floor is primarily an emergency shelter while the second floor is for the Ready for Life Program (RFL).
