New Transitional Housing Project Needs Community Support!
Supportive, transitional housing in our community, and especially for the ladies at the Sparrow's Nest, which has 52 beds, has recently become a critical project for Cherry Street Mission Ministries. Critical for several reasons.
Compared to 2008, we have experienced a 58% increase in the number of ladies coming to us for safe shelter and care. We now average 63 ladies per night, and on several occasions have had 70 - 75 ladies per night...meaning, that ladies are sleeping on floor mats and cots.
Also, several of our ladies are ready to move forward in realizing a life of independence. However, the lack of safe, affordable housing in our area has become a barrier to them. Something that transitional housing can solve.
Fortunately some community partners and individuals have come forward to help us begin to solve this critical need.
Cherry Street was recently able to purchase a large home on Bancroft Street, near Collingwood. Once renovated, this home will be able to accommodate 11 - 17 ladies. However, renovation efforts are in need of community support!
Please consider being a partner in helping ladies reach their goal of independent, safe, living.
